My View on Christmas

It’s two weeks away from Christmas. I see so many people excited about buying gifts for theirs friends and their loved ones, but somehow I feel differently.  I feel “Christ” has been taken away from “Christ”mas.  It is way too secular, worldly, and commercialized.  To me, the Advent period (the period leading up to Christmas) should be like Lent – a time of reflection, prayer and repentance.

I think it’s good to remind ourselves that Christmas is about the birth of Jesus Christ, the living God who humbled Himself to be born as a man for us poor sinners. Who later on, out of His unimaginable love, gave up His life to die on the cross for our sins. Have we given ourselves to others, especially the poor and needy? Have we loved others as Jesus have?

Look at Mary and Joseph, who faithfully did what God asked them. Have we been faithful to God?  Look at the shepherd who humbly worship the Lord. Have we worship Him with all we are?

So what do you say about telling your friends not to buy any Christmas present for you, but to use the money for the poor instead?

Some of you might think what I wrote is crazy, controversial, out of the ordinary, but St. Paul reminds us “Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect” (Romans 12:2).

2 years ago…. I decided not to celebrate Christmas because for me personally, I lost the essence of Christmas just being trapped in to the party, the festivity, and took away the Christ from that very day.
Personally and spiritually, I love Easter more than Christmas.

But, I also learned that being joyful and rejoice are also a commandment. Last year, how come I didn’t become joyful after so many great things happen in my life. And this year, even though I have to drink a lot “cups,” I will be joyful. If it’s not for me, then it’s for other people. By blending on to the cheerful moment through Christmas, I hope I could bring also happiness to other, who know or haven’t known Christ. While personally, we should include “Christ” in to His “Mass.”

Yesterday, Father told us, Christian without “Christ” is “ian,” means “I Am Nothing.”

Be joyful and rejoice with Christ, it’s a command……..

I’m not celebrate christmas anymore, the most important celebration in christian is holy communion, because at holy communion we celebrate Yeshua Hamasiakh(Jesus Christ) died, life, revival and finally ascension

yes I agree, Christmas today, meant more to non-christian then christian due to the many celebrations. I think it is good to be able to be rejoicing after a calendar year, we should thank God for giving us this ablitly. As christians, a follower of Christ, we have to remember God’s love in giving us Christ so that we can have eternal peace and joy through Christ. We are also fortunate to have our church arranging a period of Advent to help us in preparing for this feast, the birth of Christ, and to celebrate it proper. Let’s celebrate this feast with people who dont know or forgotten it real meaning by our own preparation and rejoicing, and maybe one day the people around us would follow us.
